Membership Basics
To borrow materials, a valid Pickering Public Library card is required. Library cards are FREE to the following groups:
- Residents of Pickering (proof of residence is required such as a driver’s license or utility bill)
- Employees of Pickering businesses (proof of employment is required such as a cheque stub with a Pickering address)
- Students attending Pickering schools (School ID card or other proof of enrollment is required)
- Those who own property in Pickering (proof such as a tax bill is required)
Note: A second piece of ID with home address is also required.
The Pickering Public Library welcomes Courtesy Members from other Durham municipalities. Please read the following for more details.
For non-Durham residents you may purchase a membership for $50 per year or may have the option of a six month membership for $27. This fee approximates the annual cost of library services paid by Pickering taxpayers.
Children, 13 years of age and under, require the signature of a parent or guardian to get a library card.

PLEASE NOTE
Some library materials cannot be renewed. This happens when:
- someone else is waiting for that item
- you have already renewed it for its maximum amount of renewals
- there are no renewals allowed on this item type
Please check due dates carefully. The new due date may not be a day that your branch is open. Overdue materials can be renewed. You may pay the fees on your next visit to the library. Items renewed using this service must be renewed before midnight on the due date to avoid late fees.
